Voices We Value

Alliance CEO, Pablo Villavicencio, with LA’s City Councilman for District #8, Marqueece Harris-Dawson – our special guest speaker at OneAlliance Day 2023, the largest annual all-staff event for Alliance College-Ready Public Schools.

Dear Alliance Community,

In celebration of our network’s 20th anniversary, we welcome you to the inaugural edition of the Alliance College-Ready Public Schools Monthly Digest! As a product of east LA, former teacher and academic dean, graduate of UC Berkeley and the Bank Street College of Education, and former Deputy Chief for the Oakland Unified School District, I’m so proud to serve as CEO of Alliance.

Our vision, encapsulated in the Alliance Graduate Profile, is to build and foster academic environments filled with resilient learners, wellness seekers, and community advocates. We’re committed to furthering educational justice – not just because a college education is so strongly correlated with future success, including the ability to build generational wealth – but because we want to empower our scholars with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to create the futures they so deserve.

Of our 12,500 scholars, 93% qualify for free or reduced lunch. When compared to students from similar socio-economic backgrounds, Alliance scholars are 3.5x more likely to graduate from college. Our ultimate aspiration is a 75% college graduation rate for all Alliance scholars. This may sound bold to some, but I have no doubt that our goal is just beyond the horizon. We’re well on our way to building the future we envision, but we need each and every one of you – existing Alliance families, prospective families, local community members, and elected officials – to help us make this dream a reality!

Alliance schools are the beating heart of their communities, hiring 500 residents of south, east, and downtown L.A. just last year. Whether you’re the parent of a scholar, a school employee, or a small business owner in an Alliance school community, we’re so honored to celebrate 20 years of academic service, impact, and advocacy with YOU.

Through the Monthly Digest, we’ll share the latest Alliance news and events happening across our 26 campuses, keep you up to speed on important national and local policies that impact our schools, and highlight opportunities to get involved, make an impact, and reinvest in the vibrant neighborhoods we serve.

We are so proud to be in partnership with you as we embark on our next chapter as an organization. Thank you for being a valued part of the OneAlliance family. Just imagine what we can accomplish together over the next two decades and beyond!

With gratitude,
