About the Program
At Alliance, we prepare educators to help scholars succeed in college and beyond through rigorous, joyful learning that honors their histories, identities, and communities.
Our one-year residency combines classroom experience with credential coursework that connects directly to your teaching practice. You will learn alongside an experienced mentor teacher while building the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead your own classroom.
This Marshall pathway leads to a teaching credential and does not include a master's degree.

Graduates who complete the program and meet credential requirements can apply for available full-time teaching positions at Alliance.
With the potential for an increase next school year. Alliance teachers also receive comprehensive health benefits and ongoing coaching.
Your Residency Year
Spend four days each week at an Alliance school, working with your mentor teacher to plan, teach, and reflect on your practice. One day each week is dedicated to credential coursework that strengthens your content knowledge and instruction.
During your residency, you will:
- Co-plan, co-teach, and gradually take greater responsibility for leading instruction.
- Tutor scholars and complete approved substitute teaching assignments.
- Participate in coaching and professional development.
- Complete credential coursework and required assessments.
Financial Support and Planning
Your financial support package helps cover living expenses during the residency year. Tuition, enrollment costs, and credentialing fees are separate expenses. An additional tuition scholarship and other eligible aid may help reduce those costs.
Tuition Grants and Scholarships
In addition to the possibility of an Alliance tuition scholarship of up to $5,000, residents may be eligible for the Golden State Teacher Grant Program to cover part of the tuition.
This program is for students currently enrolled in a teacher preparation program to earn a credential in a high-priority area who commit to teach at a priority school in California after completing a teacher preparation program.
High-priority areas are currently identified as Single Subject Math or Science, and Special Education. All Alliance schools are considered priority schools.
Enrolled residents can apply for funding in 2026–27 to use toward tuition for 2027–28, pending available grant funds. We'll support residents in applying for this grant during the enrollment process.
Student Loan Options
Marshall partners with local nonprofit credit unions to help residents explore loan options, financial coaching, and personalized lending support. Additional information about applications and deadlines will be available in spring 2027.

The following 2026–27 reference costs can help you begin budgeting. Marshall will confirm tuition, fees, and payment schedules for the 2027–28 cohort.

Qualifications
- Earn a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university on or before June 30, 2027.
- Be eligible to work in the United States.
Testing and Credential Requirements
Requirements vary by credential pathway. A qualifying bachelor's degree can satisfy California's Basic Skills Requirement. Subject matter competence may be demonstrated through an approved degree, coursework, exams, or a combination of options, depending on your pathway.
Marshall will guide you in reviewing your qualifications and identifying any additional requirements.

- Submit your application. Share your qualifications, experience, and interest in teaching.
- Complete a phone screening. Connect with an Alliance team member for an initial conversation.
- Join a virtual group interview. Engage in a collaborative discussion with other candidates.
- Present a virtual demo lesson. Teach a 10-minute demo lesson on a topic of your choice.
- Complete reference checks. After your final interview, we will contact two professional references.

All sessions run from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
Your School Placement
After acceptance, we will ask about your placement preferences, including whether you prefer middle school or high school. Marshall also collects information through its resident placement survey.
Following enrollment, placements are finalized from May through the summer and depend on the availability of high-quality mentor teachers.

Through our partnership with the USC Rossier School of Education, aspiring teachers can earn a master's degree and teaching credential while completing a residency at an Alliance school.
This pathway combines hands-on classroom experience with graduate-level coursework, giving residents the opportunity to learn alongside experienced Alliance educators while developing the skills to lead their own classrooms.

Earn Your Bachelor's Degree and Teaching Credential
The Los Angeles Teacher Preparation Pathway (LATPP) supports aspiring educators at every stage, whether you're starting without a bachelor's degree, already have a BA, or hold a teaching credential and want to add a Bilingual Authorization.
Participants can complete their undergraduate degree through ASU Online, East LA College, Long Beach City College, Rivet School, or UMass Global.
Credentialing Programs
For those ready to pursue their teaching credential, LATPP also connects participants with programs through:

Scholarships for Alliance Employees

Reach University: Earn Your Bachelor's Degree While Working at Alliance
Build Your Future Without Putting Your Career on Hold
Alliance is expanding bachelor's degree pathways through a new partnership with Reach University, creating another affordable opportunity for employees to advance their education and careers while continuing to work at Alliance.
Reach University offers a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies through a job-embedded apprenticeship program designed for working adults. The program connects what you learn in class with the work you do every day.
How the Program Works
- Attend virtual classes twice a week with the same cohort of students.
- Apply your coursework directly to your work with scholars.
- Receive ongoing support from an academic advisor.
- Continue working at Alliance while making progress toward your bachelor's degree.
Who Is Eligible?
Alliance employees must work directly with scholars in a classroom setting for at least 15 hours per week in an eligible instructional support role.
Eligible roles include:
- Instructional Aide
- Special Education Instructional Aide
- Behavioral Intervention Implementation (BII)
Affordable Tuition. Real Opportunity.
Reach University's tuition is $75 per month, or $900 per year, for a total of $3,600 over four years.
Alliance Scholarship Support
Eligible employees may qualify for a full scholarship covering the $900 annual tuition cost, meaning no out-of-pocket tuition expenses for those who receive the scholarship.
Scholarships are available for up to four years, depending on the length of the participant's degree pathway. Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis until exhausted.
