Alliance Richard Merkin Middle School prepares scholars for college-readiness through an innovative, equitable, and rigorous education.
We are conveniently located on the same campus as Alliance Gertz-Ressler High School, which offers our scholars the opportunity to begin their college-ready education in middle school and culminate at high school graduation – all on one campus!
Our strong community of educators and families empower our scholars to be accepted into and persist through college. It takes all of us.

Alliance Principal
Justin Shahbaz has worked in education for the last sixteen years. Mr. Shahbaz was born in Santa Ana and grew up in Oceanside, California. He first joined Alliance Richard Merkin Middle School as a math teacher.
He later became principal at Westbrook Middle School in South LA for three years after which he was deeply honored and excited to return to this school community as a principal. With commitment, passion and service being his guiding principles, he sees schools as places where students can truly thrive.
